A Homecoming for Apparel Graphics
Career day at local Fair Oaks Elementary School was extra special this year as Apparel Graphics had the opportunity to share insights about the world of screen printing and embroidery with 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. The visit was particularly meaningful because Paul Riva, owner of Apparel Graphics, once walked these same halls over 30 years ago. Returning to his childhood school not only brought back fond memories but also gave him a chance to give back to the community that helped shape him.

A Family Affair
Adding a personal touch to the event, Paul's son, Jason Riva, a current 5th grader at the school, was in attendance. Watching his father talk about their family business in front of his classmates was a proud moment for both of them. Jason's presence made the experience even more relatable to the students, as they saw firsthand that entrepreneurship and business success can come from within their own community.
Leading the Charge and Embracing the Community
The key speaker for the event was Brett Weitl, Vice President of Business Development at Apparel Graphics. Brett has been making a conscious effort to get the team out in the wild, engaging with the community and sharing their expertise. His enthusiasm and industry knowledge captivated the students, giving them a real-world glimpse into what it takes to run a successful apparel business. His leadership in these outreach efforts is helping to strengthen Apparel Graphics' presence and inspire future generations.

Bringing Screen Printing and Embroidery to Life
During the presentation, Brett and Paul showcased the exciting world of screen printing and embroidery, breaking down the creative and technical processes that go into producing custom apparel. They demonstrated how designs are created, screens are prepared, and garments are printed. The students were fascinated to learn about the various types of equipment, and the teamwork required to bring a design to life.
Inspiring the Next Generation
One of the key messages Apparel Graphics emphasized was the importance of creativity, problem-solving, and dedication in running a business. Paul shared stories about starting and growing the company, highlighting how passion and hard work can lead to success. Both he and Brett encouraged students to explore their interests, whether in art, business, or technology, as all these elements play a role in the apparel industry.
Engaging the Students with Decorated Merch
To make the career day experience interactive, the team brought in samples of printed shirts, and other assets used to create branded apparel. Students had the chance to feel different fabric types and see firsthand how cool designs can be transformed into wearable products. This approach kept the students engaged and excited, sparking curiosity about the creative and technical sides of apparel production.

A Lasting Impact on Young Minds
By the end of the presentation, students walked away with a new appreciation for the apparel industry and a sense of possibility for their own futures. Some even expressed interest in designing their own shirts or learning more about the business side of things. Seeing a local business leader who once sat in their very seats inspired them to dream big and consider the many paths they could take in life.
Apparel Graphics’ visit to career day was more than just a presentation—it was a chance to ignite curiosity, build connections, and remind young minds that with passion and perseverance, anything is possible.
